Great Mitch quote

“I won't tell you everything is great in Iraq; it is not. But we want to keep a steady flow of funds so that we don't disrupt the military,” said McConnell. “Unfortunately, most of our friends on the other isle are having a hard time admitting things are getting better; some days I almost think the critics of this war don't want us to win. Nobody is happy about losing lives but remember these are not draftees, these are full-time professional soldiers.

Fax A Thon

We had our Bardstown Rd, Farmer's Market Phone A Thon on Sat. Pam and I set up in front of the market with our ironing board and information. We got people's attention by asking them if they would like to help impeach Dick Cheney. That would bring them over to the table, and then we explained HR 333 and begin to dial for them to leave a message for Rep Yarmuth. Well, this seemed to really intimidate them....They seemed to be afraid to leave a message and had obviously never called before. To say the least, I was surprised. Sooo, we decided to push the faxes, and people seemed much more comfortable with that. We got a lot of faxes and hopefully Rep Yarmuth will get the message to sign onto HR333! For more info go to www.kucinich.us Also, for more information on a Phone A Thon ( we will do it again) go to www.codepinkalert.org

Code Pink Dessert Party at Tyler Park

We had a great time at the Code Pink Dessert Party last week at Tyler Park. There were some familar faces and a lot of new ones. Everyone was passionate about doing actions and focusing on impeachment. We plan on doing several Phone A Thons with the focus on our local Congressman and Senators.
Thank you to all the Pinks that came out and for the yummy desserts!!!
Hi everyone, Here are a few pictures from last week's get-together at Tyler Park. I felt like it was a good time just hanging out and meeting each other. Thanks to everyone for coming. I'm glad we have some upcoming actions to look forward to. Oh, one thing I forgot to mention while talking about freeway blogging is that Scarlet has a website and blog. You can go to www.freewayblogger.com for lots of info and neat stuff like this "how to" video: Peace and Social Justice, -Nimbus

Visit to Mitch McConnell's Louisville office

Presentation of Peace statement and A Walk in the Shoes at Mitch's office

Mitch, our Republican "leader" of Congress had his office visited by five of us from Code Pink a couple weeks ago. We weren't allowed to bring cameras in, but I did have my cell phone, so here are some 30 second clips I put on youtube.

We met with one of his representatives -a grumpy old white guy who basically jumped into canned talking points and told us we were "out of touch with reality" and had "our heads in the sand" among other insulting comments. He also alluded to September 11th as the reason for us being in Iraq, and the occupation as a reason we're "safe" today. He did let us read a short statement on why we were there, and we also read the names of the soldiers from Kentucky who have been killed in Iraq. We brought a basket of childrens' shoes, each tagged with a name and age, representing dead Iraqi children killed in the invasion and ongoing occupation.

Again, the youtube clips are short and low quality - chronologically, they run A,B,C, then 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 in that order. They give some sense of the atmosphere of the stuffy office.

We left telling them blood is on their hands, and them informing us to leave now or they'd call security..heehee.....I don't feel like they get many people with opposing views coming to their office. Perhaps we'll make it a more regular habit, or maybe move it to the Senator's home.

Hopefully, we'll post a more thorough description of this action here shortly....

Churchill Downs Veto Rally in Louisville

Rally near Churchill downs on may 2 after Bush's War Funding Bill veto. Most of the Peace Activists were opposed to the veto, but my sign expressed the viewpoint that the veto is actually a good one. It vetoes a bad weak bill that continues funding for the war with no true or enforcable deadlines for withdrawal. Although mainstream press and the Democrats portray the bill as a "withdrawal bill," it perpetuates the ongoing occupation of Iraq and was opposed by people of conscience like Dennis Kucinich, Maxine Waters, Barbara Lee and several others who refuse to give in to Bush's folly.
With the proximity to Churchill Downs racetrack and the upcoming Kentucky Derby, the traffic included many folks with suits and fancy clothes, as well as a number of working-class people. Although many people were apathetic to our action, peace signs outnumbered middle fingers ten to one, and we even got a peace sign (discreetly) from a passing police officer.

The signs were down the next afternoon. Two of the three were completely gone (bungee cords and all) but one was still there (complete with bungees), so we re-attached it (of course!).
